There’s been a surge in podcasts and YouTube channels recently and there will be a bigger surge in the future. You may be wondering if a podcast is right for you.
Here’s my take, whether you do a podcast, radio show, TikTok or traditional social media – harness the power of storytelling. Harness the ways people tell stories that educate, entertain, inspire or inform.
- Learn how to listen. What is your guest saying that could spark more conversation?
- Ask better questions. The reason people enjoy Hot Ones, especially the guest are the level of questions the host has. The aren’t cookie cutter, boring or predicable. They are fresh, fun and usually causes the guest to speak more.
- Watch your tone. Be aware of how you sound when speaking. Do you send happy, mad or indifferent? Your audience can tell and will leave if you sound dry or misinformed.
- Is your material current? Sometimes a hot topic is a hot topic and sometimes people are ready to discuss things that are trending. The key to good storytelling is to interweave the two. That means you can tell an old story yet make it current or reflective of today.
Remember, storytelling helps you increase sales, connect with your audience and highlight who you are. It also allows people to connect with you in fresh and up close ways. Take a moment to reflect on how you are sharing your stories.
