Seems like virtual events are everywhere. Virtual school, virtual worship, virtual dating and more. With hundreds of events happening online, how can you stand out and not burn out attendees?
- Make registration a breeze: No one wants to click more than once or twice. Make signups an easy process. If not, people will not sign up.
- Test the audio before the event begins: This will ensure that people can hear the speaker.
- Minimize background noise: We live in a loud world and it can be challenging to get things to be 100% silent. However, when you minimize background noise people will listen and actually engage.
- Dress to impress, but keep it simple. This rule applies for in person as well as virtual events. Busy designs and jewelry can be distracting.
- Have someone on standby to troubleshoot: Recently, a phone service was overwhelmed with the number of people that called in for an event – it locked out nearly 1000 callers! Of course, callers weren’t happy and the event had to be rescheduled. However, the announcement came after people emailed the host about being locked out of the meeting.
- Add music: Even if the event is of a serious nature, you can add music to loosen people up and make them feel relaxed.
- Have something for people to do: People are more inclined to stick around for meetings, events, etc when you make them feel included. This means adding a game, q&a , trivia or something that would help them stay engaged.
- Add value: There’s a meme that says how a meeting could have been an email. Ouch- but the truth is when you host events add value. What is the call to action? What can people learn? Is there enough time to do the task? Is it something new? Think about those things before you host a session.
Happy Meeting!
