Media. Media. Media. People want it, but don’t always know where to start.
- Think about what you want to achieve. Do you want more profits? New business? Media hits? Awards? Etc? If you aren’t sure – write it out. Think about what it looks like to you. Clear your mind as best as you can and draw out what you want.
- Target the right media or medium. Once you narrow your scope, consider where you will find them. Do they listen to podcast? Are they fans of cable news? Will you find them online reading articles? Does your audience watch the 6:00 am or 9:00 pm news? Do they watch news in English or another language? Again, you may feel tv is the way to go ( hey don’t we ALL love Oprah, Anderson Cooper and Ellen)? Yet, we have to figure out what conversations will people listen to and interact with.
- Pitch – don’t pray and spray. Instead, create a solid media pitch that people want to hear or learn about. Think of events that are happening and how it may correspond with your product, service, etc.
- Follow up – the best time to connect with me is before you need them. Don’t wait until you have a grand opening or a new book coming out to connect with the media.
What would you add to the list?
